Supreet Singh

Supreet (she/her) is a JD Candidate at the University of Alberta who enjoys architecture, technological innovation, and fashion. Driven by her passion for social justice, Supreet works to raise awareness of various human rights violations; she has a particular interest in protecting the right to a fair trial and in working against the use of torture on detainees. She joined The Matchstick in an effort to merge her interest in artistic expression and her human rights advocacy. She believes that art is a great medium through which to incite change because it provides visual representation and evokes emotion within the viewer. She recommends checking out the work of Senga Nengudi, who uses her art to comment on the limits placed on female bodies, and the work of Alice Neel, whose portraits portray class and gender struggles.
